We have recently added a new SMT to DIP adapter to our BrownDog Adapters product line, model number 250601. This is a TSSOP-8 to 8-pin DIP adapter that converts TSSOP-8 surface mount components with a 0.65mm pin pitch to the 8-pin DIP through-hole footprint. The TSSOP (thin shrink small outline package) family of components has a lower vertical profile and a finer pin pitch than the venerable SOIC package, and it is now a very commonly used integrated circuit package. The contact pins of this adapter are on a standard 0.1 in. (2.54mm) grid pattern in rows spaced at 0.3 in. (7.62mm), which allows it to be installed into a standard DIP-8 socket, breadboard, protoboard, or anywhere with a DIP-8 land pattern.
The BrownDog 250601 adapter is made from FR-4 laminate with solder mask in an attractive green color and ENIG plating, and can be purchased either with or without gold plated press-fit pins installed. When pins are installed, the heads of the pins remain below the top surface, which makes this adapter suitable for automated pick and place assembly in 100-up V-scored panel arrays.
